Description

This is my first image of Andromeda. I acquired these images from my backyard with the help of a Ultra High Contrast Filter to mitigate the extremely light polluted skies at my house. Each picture is a 10 minute exposure. The Andromeda Galaxy is a  beautiful barred spiral galaxy with two  arms.It lies 2.5 Million light years from our galaxy, the Milky Way. When the light that  hit my telescope and camera left Andromeda humans did not exist on Earth. It spans 220,000 light years in diameter and an estimated 1 trillion stars exist in Andromeda. It is the largest galaxy in our local group of galaxies. Andromeda is moving towards the Milky Way at 400,000 Kilometers/hour. It is expected that in 4 billion years the two giant galaxies will merge into one larger elliptical galaxy with no disk or arms.
