Description

My new 0.67x focal reducer finally arrived last week, after being stuck for 2months at Frankfurt airport. I was keen to try it out, but the weather has somewhat sub-optimal of late and it took 7 days of imaging just to collect 3hours of decent data. The seeing conditions weren't bad (for this place) - around 3-4 arcsecs - but I still went for my big pixel OSC (ASI2400MC) rather than the 1600MM. On reflection, I should probably have gone for the latter. Even with a lower QE, I suspect I may have got better colours with the mono camera. Nevertheless, I do find an OSC has a logistical advantage when dealing with unpredictable weather, as you can always make a colour image at any point.

While the image is almost certainly under-cooked and under-resolved, I am happy with the performance of my 0.67x reducer - finally giving me a sweet spot of 1080mm focal length - well matched to my 4arcsec site. I shall return to dance on this Sombrero next year.

Description: With all the discussion in the Forum about Topaz, I thought I would give it a try. Works pretty well on lunar images, but not generally on DSO images. This might be an exception.
