Description

This planetary nebula is located 7000 light years away in the constellation of Hydra at a declination of -16 degrees.  It is a magnitude 13 PN which spans 1.2 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to the typical PN diameter of 2 light years.

I color calibrated this narrowband image to the color of the much fainter RGB image.  The OIII signal is stronger in the rim, while the HII signal is slightly stronger in the inner region.  The faint bipolar lobes are visible – it looks like the primary axis is from lower left to upper right.  The small blue progenitor star appears in the center of the nebula.
