M51 or Whirlpool Galaxy

Where in the last picture it went far beyond 1600LJ, we now leave our galaxy and go about 30 million LJ into space (and therefore the content of the picture is a look 30 million into the past). This impressive galaxy is slightly smaller than our Milky Way and has as a special feature an accompanying galaxy that met about 400 million years ago. This led to the fact that in the reddish areas in the picture (ionized hydrogen) there were many star formation with extremely massive stars. 3 supernova in the last 17 years testify to this. The accompanying galaxy continues to deform during this process, consuming most of the gas in the process.

Compiled from recordings from Celle u Achim, Germany and El Paso, La Palma, Spain.
