Description

My final image of January, and third member of the ‘Leo triplet’ comprises just under an hour of integration using 2m subs. NGC 3628 demands much longer integration and deeper exposures to tease out the fine detail, subtle colour, and faint star stream that grace this DSO - I look forward ‘with relish’ to having another go at the ‘hamburger’ galaxy.

Seeing improved as the night progressed, providing reasonable conditions for imaging at f3.3. I used a small dither in PHD2 to reduce noise, and applied flats and darks to the RAW data, which was binned 2x2.  Further reduction in image scale by 50% in Startools helped improve image quality. The stretched data had a strong green tint, despite demosaicing the RAW data, so I pushed up the red channel to mask this. Final noise reduction was completed in Nebulosity 4.

A number of smaller galaxies can be seen in the background, most obvious is IC 2745 lower left. As ever, I value your feedback and comments.
