Applecore through new eyes

After several months of indecision I have finally taken the plunge and in vested in some new kit

Have got a ZWO ASI 1600MM Pro cool plus ZWO Electronic Filter Wheel ... automated focuser hasn't arrived yet

I am using these through N.I.N.A which again is all new to me

Astro folklore says that when new kit arrives there will be two weeks of cloud, but not on this occasion ... clear skies appeared

I couldn't get focus on Friday so need some more extenders ... but then realised I could use my "posh" coma corrector to get the necessary additional length ... this comes with the problem of stars not being round even in the centre of the field ... combination of duff spacing and tilt I assume

So with posh coma corrector in place tried again on Saturday night and got two hours (one hour HA, one hour Oiii) before M27 went behind the house

I chose M27 cause it a bright target and cause I could compare with my recent version using my modified Canon 7d

To my eyes there is a major improvement ... this version only two hours , more detail, more dynamic looking and very very low noise ... to the extent that I didn't have to apply any noise reduction

N.I.N.A worked really well ... once I got automatic focuser in place I will be able to get a lot more sleep lol

Description: Messed around some more trying to drag out the faint outer nebulosity .... there will be more there :) I have encouraged this much out so far

Description: Finally wings the outer nebulosity out so it can be seen! Achieved this by taking the mono red and blue channels , stretching the buggery out of them then running through starnet++ to remove stars then lots of layering with a starless not blown out nebula and then added back the stars. Then tweaked and tweaked and tweaked. Applecore now has wings :)

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
