Description

This object is a globular cluster located 22,000 light years away in the constellation of Scutum at a declination of -9 degrees. The cluster width in our apparent view is 10 arc-minutes which corresponds to a true diameter of 60 light years.

This cluster is unique because none of the stars in the cluster are less massive than our sun. I have a hard time believing this statement, but Stephen James O'Meara wrote it in one of his books so it must be true. This uniqueness is because this cluster comes closer to the Milky Way's center than any other globular cluster. It is believed that each passage through the center robs the cluster of lower mass stars.
