This is the well known Sadr region in Cygnus with plenty of nebulosity. In the middle is the star Sadr itself, the bright middle star in Cygnus, and just next to it the famous butterfly nebula. It is a lot of fun to explore all the details in this area. There are so many features both bright and dark.

The image is taken with my Sony A7S, and a 12 nm snap in H-alpha filter. This means that only the red pixels get useful light and thus the image is sub sampled. The camera is not modified, so there is another penalty. So I guess a B/W modern CMOS camera with the same pixel size would be able to get the same image in just a fraction of the time. If only 20% of the light is detected here in just 1/4 of the available pixel area, that fraction should be about 1:20. This means that 3-4 hours would reduce to about 11 minutes. If that is true maybe I should think about a new Camera for H-alpha.

I managed to increase the exposure time per image to 5 minutes this time. My USB connector in the camera is broken, but I found an ASCOM driver for the wifi interface to the camera. To go from 30 s to 5 minutes per sub frame makes a big difference.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
