Description

The Whirlpool galaxy, Messier 51, is a face on spiral galaxy about 25 million light years away in the constellation of Canes Venatici (the hunting dogs).
It is interacting with a dwarf galaxy, NGC 5195 (or M51b), which is the yellowish blob to the upper right of M51.
The two galaxies are connected by a dust-rich tidal bridge.
Imaged over 2 nights (14,16 Apr 2021) from Bortle 5 back garden with:
Scope: C925 Edge with 0x7 reducer
Mount: CGX autoguided with ASI 120MM
Camera: ASI 533 MC at -15degC, 139 gain
54 x 300s subs with flats and bias - ~4.5 hours total
