Description

The Trifid Nebula (left) and the Lagoon Nebula (right) captured using a OSC with a dual-band filter (Ha+OIII) + an SII filter and portrayed in SHO. The Trifid Nebula’s name means ‘three-lobe’ due to its visual structure. Accordingly, the Lagoon Nebula is called as such due to the dark band that separates it into two: The blue area appears as a lagoon surrounded by an island of light (red-orange area) which, in turn, looks to be in a ‘sea of darkness’. Both are approximately 1,250 parsecs (≈4,100 lightyears) away from Earth.
