Description

A close-up of Gum 1, Head of the Seagull (IC2177) is a region of nebulosity that lies along the border between the constellations Monoceros and Canis Major. It is a roughly circular H II region centered on the Be star HD 53367.  The Ha only image displays, not surprisingly, a large network of beautiful nebulosity.  I was glad this worked out given seeing conditions not being ideal to image at f/10, producing a pixel scale of 0.276 arcsec/pixel.  Fortunately, the guiding was excellent.  If weather permits, I'll collect some O3 data to present a color image with RGB stars.
