Description

Shot this over three nights, but two of them were pretty hazy from smoke (cutting down the signal strength significantly); sadly that's a fact of life much of the time in Colorado, even when we don't have fires, someone does, and we get everyone's smoke.  We've been lucky that it hasn't happened too much this year, but lately we've been getting a fair bit from Idaho or someplace up northwest.

The Lion Nebula here is fairly dim, so it's a little difficult to process in the first place, I think, but I'm suspicious that the loss of contrast from the smoke made it a lot harder than it might have been.  I don't think the 20+ hours is nearly as much as it would seem under the circumstances -- it's maybe the equivalent of a fraction of that under good conditions.  So feel like I could have used more or better data (especially SII), but...  I'm still reasonably happy with this result and don't really want to wait for that (and...  Maybe I'm wrong and it wouldn't be better?)  I'm going to call it good and move on.

And hey, got a little surprise planetary off on the upper right side there, too.

Title: SHO, boosted SII for more low-intensity detail

Description: I just wasn't quite happy with the original version; it felt like it lost too much of the fine detail in SII, and despite the SII data not being very good, I decided to give it another pass and bring it out more; it's a compromise, really, and ultimately decided it was a bit better, even if it has more obvious artifacts.

I think this would be better with a slightly bigger scope and also, you know, less smoke.
