Description

I have been on a star forming area kick lately.  This is the 3rd object captured in the past few weeks that is a major star forming area like its nearby neighbors the Eagle and Swan nebulas.  I had another windy night, so I was having a real hard time getting good round stars.  Therefore, I decided to try and capture some 5 second RGB images, but the wind really picked up and even getting 5 second shots got difficult.  We have had so few clear nights, I hated to not image.

This nebula was discovered in 1654 by Giovanni B. Hodierna.  M8 is around 4,100 light years away with an estimated size of 110x50 light years.
