Description

This image of Orion was acquired on December 1, 2018, and shows a bright Betelgeuse on Orion's left shoulder. After spending the last three clear nights on February 21-February 23 looking at Orion and considering the changed appearance with a faint Betelgeuse, it inspired me to dig out some old data and process it for comparison. I hope to use the same setup soon to acquire a comparison image before Betelgeuse brightens again.

For anyone who thinks you need expensive equipment to take acceptable astroimages, please note this image was taken with a Canon 450D and it's standard kit lens, mounted on a star tracker.
