Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a blue compact dwarf galaxy (BCD) located 12 million light years away in the constellation of Draco at a declination of +64 degrees.  It spans 1 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of only 5000 light years.

NGC 6789 is the nearest BCD galaxy to us.

Blue compact dwarf galaxies (BCDs) are small, faint, and blue starburst galaxies. They have little dust. They are blue because they contain massive young stars that emit high energy radiation. Since spiral density waves are not present in dwarf galaxies, it is not clear how their star formation is triggered.
