Description

This is a favorite of mine to image in hydrogen alpha.  So much contrast and structure, and of course the iconic Horsehead as one of the most memorable pictures I remember as a kid.

Shooting it in color - in my opinion - is just too much red.  It's mostly hydrogen gas in the Horsehead region and I think you lose the contrast perspective when color is in the picture.

I didn't even bother to crop the frame... there's so much interesting stuff and even on the edges, which implies that there is more beyond the image.  I suppose I will eventually make a mosaic of this region, but such an image would reduce the horsehead's prominence in the image.  I wanted the horse to be the centerpiece in this.

I drew out the clouds below the Horsehead just enough to show there was matter and structures there.  Honestly, it was a surprise to me that there was stuff there at all.
