Description

It won't surprise a single soul that this is M42 and M43 - with NGC 1975 and 1977 forming up on the right. This snapshot came from an EAA session (electronically-assisted astronomy) and has not been post-processed. This is 14 live-stacked frames, 30 seconds each at 100 gain, for a total of 420 seconds (7 minutes) start to finish on a 25-degree (F) moonless night (1/3/2022), captured totally in Sharpcap (only) without guiding. RASA 11 (f 2.2) with a ZWO ASI2600MC Pro, using the Octopi-Astro camera interface. Captured on the outskirts of Louisville, KY, in Bortle 5 (border Bortle 6) skies. The Celestron Light Pollution filter was (as it always is with me) secure in the filter location where the "glass blank" comes from the factory. Frankly, I'm amazed not only at this target, but also at virtually every target this RASA 11 images. There's so much to like. See a 90-minute excerpt of the entire EAA session "Astronomy on a Cold Winter Night via a RASA 11," at https://youtu.be/pHBJ9rMV7AE .
