Description

The Witch Head is an extremely faint reflection nebula believed to be an ancient supernova remnant or gas cloud illuminated by nearby super giant star Rigel in Orion. It lies in the Eridanus constellation, about 900 light-years from Earth. The nature of the dust particles, reflecting blue light better than red, is a factor in giving the Witch Head its blue color.

— The technical stuff —

The below image was captured by an Orion 80mm ED Refractor mounted on a SkyWatcher AZ-EQ5 GT equatorial, and my Nikon D3100 DSLR. The camera was set at ISO 1600 and mutiple(20+) one minute images of each object are captured and then stacked in DeepSkyStacker and enhanced in GIMP.
