Description

Also known as Sharpless 108, or just 'The Sadr Region' because the star Sadr appears to sit at its heart. This image is taken with an H-alpha filter meaning that it sees only the unique, deep red signature of light given off by hydrogen molecules. Hydrogen makes up most of this nebula, and others like it. The vast size of the structures in this complex region mean that there is a lot of Hydrogen around - but it still took more than 6 hours to capture this image, which is several degrees across

The bright potato-shaped blob centre-left is the Crecsent Nebula. Sadr is just discernible centre-top, below the dark dust lane seen in silhouette.

Ha Image created using PixInsight (for calibration, registration, integration) and Adobe Lightroom (for cosmetic adjustments). 76x300s exposures went into creating this image. Data captured in New Mexico at Deep Sky West, using a QSI WSG-5 CCD Camera and a 135mm f/2 Rokinon lens.
