Here is my version of the Pleiades Cluster - imaged this weekend during the New Moon.
I have been collecting data on M45 for a couple of nights. This is a combination of 3 x 600s lights and about 15 x 300 s lights. (70mm SV triplet, Canon 60D modifiied, NEQ6 mount, ASIair raspberry Pi for scheduling and autoguiding).
I stacked this in APP and processed it in Pixinsight v 1.8.8...
"The cluster is among the nearest to Earth, and the most obvious to the naked eye. Although only a handful are visible to the unaided eye, it contains hundreds of stars, some of them surrounded by swirls of nebulosity."
The names of the stars themselves are cool. We have, for example, Maia, Alcyone, Pleione, Atlas, Taygeta. They may be good candidate names for dogs, children, songbirds in the garden... 🙂
Often overlooked is the huge molecular cloud that surrounds the Pleiades, and this wide angle image might start to provide a hint of that.
