Description

The Constellation Cygnus, The Swan
High above the summer night sky, you can see Cygnus, the Swan. She's also known as the Northern Cross. This constellation is very easy to see in the summer time as it's nearly directly overhead. To an astrophotographer, Seeing Cygnus also is a signal that we are done with Galaxy Season and moving on to the summer targets. To the naked eye, you can only really see the main stars - Deneb, Sadr, Alberio and a few others (those stars are clearly visible in the posted image. But if you have the patience and the right equipment, Cygnus is filled with some of the best nebulae in the sky - starting with the North American Nebula, the Veil nebula, the Butterfly and Crescent, as well as the Tulip nebula.
As I've shot nearly all of these targets on their own, it I wanted to try to shoot the entire constellation and try to get the main nebulae visible in the wide field.
Usually, I shoot with a telescope - but this shot was made with a 17-35mm Nikon zoom lens attached to my ZWO ASI 183 mc Pro astrocamera. This rig looks kind of strange on its own, but it did capture a huge swath of the sky. This is covering something like a 5% swath of the night sky.
I'll try to get a plate solved version of this to post along side so you all can get a sense as to just how big this part of the sky is - and how many objects are part of it...
