Description

NGC 278 is a rarely imaged small galaxy in Cassiopeia. It is probably 40 million light years away.

The galaxy has an unusual structure with a ring of active star formation near nucleus and a larger other ring of dusty and dim regions (see NGC278 in C. Seligman's Atlas).

During processing I've tried to show the dim outer regions of the galaxy. Dark skies allowed to reveal some details in them and a lot of tiny galaxies in background.

This is my second attempt to image this galaxy. Here is the first:
