Description

M110 is obviously overshadowed by its much larger neighbor, M31, but this little elliptical galaxy is actually interesting in its own right. It is classified as peculiar due to the presence of dust patches and bright blue stars near its core. Yet it is rarely imaged, except as a companion to its more popular sibling.

I decided to focus my processing efforts on this object and ultimately cropped some more of M31 out of the frame as a result. I was mostly interested in seeing the shape of the dust clouds, as I detected them in my earlier shot of M31 with a much smaller scope. I actually thought it was a processing artifact at the time, untill I saw the same pattern on other very long exposures of this target. If you look carefully, you can find a few more tiny galaxies in the rest of the field.
