Description

Helix Nebula (NGC 7293) is a planetary nebula located in the southern constellation of Aquarius. A planetary nebula is a type of emission nebula consisting of an expanding, glowing shell of ionized gas ejected from red giant stars late in their lives (source: Wikipedia). At approximately 650 light years away, it is one of the closest planetary nebulae to Earth. In about 5 billion years, after its red giant phase, our Sun will reach the end of its lifecycle and form a planetary nebula. This object is also referred to as 'Eye of God' and 'Eye of Sauron'.
