Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a face-on grand design spiral galaxy located 280 million light years away in the constellation of Pegasus at a declination of +32 degrees.  It 2.3 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a large diameter of 180,000 light years.

I love grand design spiral galaxies.  I think they are majestic with their well-defined, outwardly spiraling arms.  This one has some interesting straight segments scattered about, especially in the top half, perhaps indicating VV row formation.  The arms do not appear to spiral in to the core, instead stopping at the bright yellow circular inner region.

A small blue galaxy is visible in the bottom right of the outer disk.  There is a bit of disturbance nearby, although not much, so it is unclear whether this object is a small close companion or a distant larger galaxy.  I think it might be a companion based on its odd diffuse shape.
