Description

It is done, finally! Once Anis got his setup going with the 268M cam, we decided to collaborate and go deep into this region.

Over 200 hours collected to what looks like a starfield . But we encourage you to look at it in full screen to see all of the distant galaxies littered around and of course the star of this image, the galaxy cluster SDSS J1038+4849. The two eyes are the distant galaxies SDSSCGB 8842.3 and SDSSCGB 8842.4 4.5, about 4.5 billion light-years away!

The light from those galaxies passes by J1038 on its way to Earth, and travels through the region of space distorted by the galaxies’ gravity. This bends the light, acting like a giant lens made of gravity (hence the term gravitational lens)

Included the Hubble image as an overlay. Ref: Smiling Lens

We hope you like this image. Clear skies!
