Description

I was just filling in some time as I waited for Orion to get high enough to shoot. M34 seemed to be a rather unremarkable open cluster. But as is often the case you see something in the frame that is interesting and that you never knew was there. I only took one minute exposures since it is an open star cluster and I did not want to wash out the star colors by over exposing them. As I was doing the little bit of processing required I saw what I think is a cute little planetary nebula at about 5 o'clock a little up from the bottom of the frame. I hope that the little blue/green guy will get identified when the plate solving is done. There were also many galaxies that came out even with the short exposure. I may have to return here with the 10 inch RC and do M34 again.

Later addition: I am coming back right away with this information on my cute little planetary nebula. It was found and marked by the plate solving here on Astrobin. It is PK144-15.1 also known as PN A66 4 or Abell 4 and has been seen and commented on by other astrophotographers. It turns out to be one of the brighter Abell objects. It is a Magnitude 12.5 planetary that I will come back and get later with a greater focal length telescope.
