Description

I have taken several images of Mare Tranquillitatis in the past but have not had a clear view of the three craters named after the Apollo 11 crew. Well, I am getting closer to my goal. Using my Celestron C9.25 SCT I now have a capture that shows these craters.  In this annotated image the three craters are visible - Armstrong is 4.6km in diameter, Collins is 2.4km in diameter, and Aldrin is 3.4km in diameter. The landing site itself is also identified. The base is named Statio Tranquillitatis ("Tranquility Base").

The other labelled craters are Ritter (~30km diameter), Sabine (~30km diameter), and Moltke (~6km diameter).

This image was taken without my Tele Vue Powermate. I am looking forward to that capture. Stay tuned.
