This is such a magnificent area to spend time in. The colors and textures really give it a 3D effect. Imagine seeing this supernova light up in the sky 8000 years ago!

I finally got a field flattener for my AT60ED scope. Perfect timing to image something that fills the entire FoV

i also accidentaly imaged with the asi183mc gain at 200 (instead of my usual 111 unity gain point). Only realized when the stack completed and showed massive amp glow. New set of darks for this and amp glow successfully calibrated out again. Whew. I might try some more of the Veil with this gain 200 setting now. It does not seem to have saturated the stars and there is some very nice nebulous detail coming through in a 2 hour integration.

I also used a Optolong L-eNhance filter this time. Tri-band filter (H-a. H-b, OIII) for OSC cameras. Was hoping to get some of the nice blue/red colors out of Veil. Seems to have worked!

Description: Reprocessed... Tried to maintain more "natural" colors. Also tried to keep stars tight and not diffused. Which one do you think is better? Natural or processed.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
