Description

Soul Nebula a.k.a. IC 1848 a.k.a. Westerhout 5
............................................................................................

Soul is a an emission nebula found at about 7500 light-years from Earth, located in the constellation Cassiopeia. With a diameter of about 100 light-years, this nebula, along with the neighboring nebula, Heart, is one of the largest and most concentrated areas for the formation of new stars. For a better understanding of the Soul Nebula’s size, it must be said that it occupies an area in the sky equal to 4 x full Moon. Most of the stars in this nebula are hundreds of millions of years old, meaning young stars if we consider that the Sun is about 5 billion years old and is considered to be a medium age star.
