Description

The bright star AE Aurigae is a "runaway star" ejected from the area of the Trapezium Cluster in Orion about 2.5 million years ago. It originally formed as part of a binary system in the Trapezium with the star Mu Columbae. It's thought that these 2 stars collided with another binary system, sending AE Aurigae and Mu Columbae hurtling away from each other at 200,000 mph. During its journey through space, AE Aurigae lights up and ionizes surrounding dust and gas. (Source: NASA and Wikipedia).

I didn't realize how much of IC 405 includes reflection nebula - I'm glad I didn't stop with just the L-extreme filter, which picked up none of that. The L-pro filter did a great job revealing the "smoke" around AE Aurigae.
