Andy Campbell is a Grand Master of the former Australian Institute of Professional Photography, A Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography and a Master of photography WPPI USA. He has been a professional photographer since 1983.
Andy’s obsession with Astrophotography began in 2012 when a good friend donated him his old Meade Newtonian telescope. Andy was immediately intrigued by the possibility of attaching a camera and photographing the heavens.
Andy recently upgraded all the AP gear to his current Takahashi TOA 130, CEM70G mount and Atik APX60 Mono astronomical camera with 5nm Ha, O3 & S2 Chroma Filters and the journey continues...
Andy is also recognised by his peers as a discerning judge of photography. He is currently an Astrobin judge who, along with Astrobin founder Salvatore Iovene wrote the IOTD guidelines.
Andy is committed to judge training & development & has judged at the state and national awards for the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) for the last 25 years.
Andy’s images have been selected as Apod on six occasions, and he was a finalist in the 2023, 2020 & 2019 Royal Greenwich Astronomy Photographer of the Year competitions. Andy won the 2021 Save a Star Competition and the Nature section of the Australian Photographic Prize in 2022. His images have been selected for Astrobin IOTD on 12 occasions.
