Hidden Treasures Catalog (Complete*) A collection by Gary Imm

In 2007, astronomer Stephen James O'Meara published a list of 109 objects called the Hidden Treasures, documented in his excellent book of the same name. This list contains 109 interesting deep sky objects which are not on the famous list of 110 Messier objects (established in the 1700s), nor on the list of 109 Caldwell objects (published in 1995). O'Meara selected these objects after culling over many other lists and consulting other experienced astronomers. Many of the objects selected by O'Meara are bright and beautiful, but many others are included because of their astronomical uniqueness or their historical significance. The list consists of 38 open star clusters, 35 galaxies, 8 globular star clusters, 8 bright nebulae, 14 planetary nebulae, 4 asterisms, 1 dark nebula and 1 star. From my location latitude at 31 degrees north, I imaged 104 of the 109 objects (50, 54, 71, & 73 remain below the horizon, and one of the objects (87) is a star that I didn't want to image). The first image below is a poster containing images of all of the objects, as well as a table which summarizes the key information for each object. After that, the Hidden Treasure object images are each shown individually in order starting with HT1.
