I've wanted to do Astrophotography since the early 90's and built a Newtonian Reflector, grinding the mirror with a kit of Pyrex blanks with instructions from an old Edmund Scientific instructional book. "How to make your own Telescope". The tube was a Cobra helicopter TOW missile launcher, something that was more cool than functional. But, I learned a lot and had fun with it. It took 20 hours to hand grind the mirror with various carbides and silicone oxide powders. Knife edge tests and the whole thig took months. As life went on I've had a few telescopes but not until recently has technology and the internet opened up this wonderful hobby to the point we can capture those images the way we want....like the observatories and all those beautiful pictures we'd see in books we no doubt read through the years.
I've had many hobbies and work in the aviation industry and freelance as an artist and photographer....because I enjoy it. I've built planes, a mid engine sports car and restored a few things in my life. I grew up in California and Hawaii and love the Ocean and surfing. I spent 14 years in Europe, much in Germany, but travelled to many countries, spending time paragliding in Macedonia, living in Hungary for 10 months and visiting everything else. I now live here in Maryland and work at the Naval Aviation Test Center in Patuxent River MD.
