What is Leela?

A Sanskrit word that loosely translates as 'play', but represents much more than that, rooting back into an ancient Indian metaphysical concept. This concept has been defined variously as "the infinitely tantalising play, chicanery, and light and shade of the created universe", "the sense of the divine action upon the cosmos, the play of creation, destruction, reconstruction" and so on.

Leela is also a word present in Arabic and Hebrew, where it translates as "night", "dark" and "beauty".

So Leela Imaging is, I hope you'll agree, a very apt name for images of the strange, powerful, ancient, vast and beautiful kosmos that we are but a fleeting and infinitesimally small part of!

Plus, of course, Futurama fans will recognise Leela as the cool pilot who saves the day on a regular basis :)
