Description

NGC 4559 is a mixed spiral galaxy around 30 million light years away in the constellation of Coma Berenices. 'Mixed' here means that it is somewhere between a barred spiral and an unbarred spiral. The galaxy spans around 100,000 light years and has a total mass of around 40 billion Suns (O'Meara - The Caldwell Objects: Second Edition; CUP 2016). Sir Patrick Moore listed the galaxy as object 36 in his list of Caldwell objects.

NGC 4559 was photographed between 13 January and 14 February 2021.
