Description

This is my take on NGC 7023, the Iris Nebula. Located 1300 -1400 light years from Earth in the constellation of Cepheus, this unique and beautiful reflection glows bluish-indigo due to the higjly concentrated cosmic particles, some 100 times smaller than the average dust particles found in our homes. These particles difuse the light of the central star and other stars of the open cluster that resides within the nebula. Although not considered an Ha region, the HST has found red filiments of an unknown composition; making this nebula a highly sought after target for star formation research. My attempt to bring out the dark "petals" of the nebula were successful and I'm pleased with the results. Also, other dark nebula regions came out as well. All the above information was taken from Wikipedia and the NASA websites. As always, comments, and constructive criticism are always welcome. Thanks for viewing.

Description: Reprocessed this using flat frames for calibration. I was able to remove all of the vignetting and some of the chromatic streaks, but some streaking still remains if the image is zoomed up on. Maybe I'm trying to stretch the darker regions too much. I don't know whats causing it. If anyone knows how to eliminate these, I'll but them a beer of their choice! In addition, I was able to pull more detail out of the reflection area and some the red that NASA has been unable to explain since this is not an Ha region. Again, comments and criticism are encouraged. Enjoy and Clear Skies to all.
