Description

It's that time of year when I decided to harm me by trying to shoot a dark nebula from the terrible sky at home. This time I chose an object at the limit of my possibilities, the so-called Rotten Fish Nebula in the constellation Cepheus.
It is not among the most beautiful images that can be seen but I am quite satisfied with the result, considering that by measuring the lights with ASTAP I get an SQM between 17.5 and 18.4 which translated into Bortle scale means between 7 and 9!!!

LDN 1251 is a complex nebula, containing both dark and reflection structures, nicknamed the Rotten Fish Nebula. The acronym “LDN” refers to Lynd's Catalog of Dark Nebulae, whose entries were identified by examining red and blue images from the Palomar Sky Atlas Observatory.
LDN 1251 is quite close to us, about 1000 light years away, and is part of a very large complex of reflection and dark nebulae in this area of the sky. In the background you can also see very distant galaxies, some partially obscured by intergalactic dust. Near the left edge of the nebula is PGC69472, a spiral galaxy about 800 million light-years away from us, while to the top right of the center of the image is PGC166755, more than a billion light-years away from us.
