Description

This is a surprisingly difficult galaxy to capture using a colour camera, a slow scope and bright night skies. This has been captured over multiple nights over the last 4 weeks with a view of getting subs with the lowest FWHM, to the extent that I tried using short subs to maximise this (NEVER trying this project again with a colour camera). What I have noticed is that seeing in my location is not great with very few occasions of it, hence the push to get more and more data to get the detail I was looking for, I threw away a lot of data!

- Downsampled to 75%
- Seperately stretched the stars to maintain decent sized stars
- Star size reduction
- Banding reduction and LP removal
- A variety of stretches on the galaxy using tonal masks
- Colour enhancement and selective NR

A question I saw in a forum post recently was "how much is enough data?"" In my case knowing the limtations of my gear I required a lot more data than I acquired to get the detail I was looking for but there is a balance to how much effort you really want to put into a project. I think this can determine what kind of gear you require to achieve your objectives in a manageable amount of time. What I have learned is that the level of detail for the amount of effort is just not worth it.
