Description

This stunning wide-field image of the Chameleon cloud complex captures the mesmerizing beauty of the night sky, showcasing IC 2631, IC 3104, and the Dark Doodad nebula in all their glory. The intricate details and vivid colors of these celestial objects are brought to life in this image, which transports the viewer to the depths of space. IC 2631 is a star cluster surrounded by glowing gas and dust, while IC 3104 is a planetary nebula that is illuminated by a dying star. The Dark Doodad nebula is a dense cloud of dust and gas that blocks out the light of the stars behind it, creating an eerie and mysterious effect. Together, these objects make for a breathtaking display of the wonders of the universe. The locals also nickname this region 'Spider and the Fly' since IC 2631 does resemble a spider, while Musca (Dark Doodad nebula) is another moniker for a fly!

To get this shot, I piggybacked by Sony A7iii on my main telescope. An 85mm lens was wide enough to fit multiple objects into one field of view.
