Description

A year ago I started Astrophotography. If I would have known how hard this hobby is, I probably wouldn't have started it and just purchased an epic James Webb image for the wall. It has always been a dream of mine to go into space and 1 year on, this is my anniversary image and officially my fourth astrophotography image (SHO Hubble Palette).

Introducing the Eagle Nebula (Messier 16 / NGC 6611). This Nebula is also known as the Star Queen Nebula which may be of significance to some given recent events. It was discovered in 1745 before light pollution was as it is today and we only see the brightest of stars in the sky. This image was made famous in 1995 using the Hubble Telescope which shot the 'Pillars of Creation' igniting dreams of aliens and space discovery. So, some fun facts. The Eagle Nebula is an Emission Nebula and ~7000 light years from Earth. It is 5700 lightyears wide (distant) which is mind blowing when you think about it - that means that to get from one side to the other takes 5700 years...and I thought driving across Australia was a mission! There are over 8000 stars, overall luminosity is 1 million times the Sun and the cluster is believed to be 1-2 million years old.

I hope you enjoy this space nerd moment!
