Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a spiral galaxy located 380 million light years away in the constellation of Pegasus at a declination of +10 degrees.  It is a magnitude 14 galaxy which spans 1 arc-minute in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 100,000 light years.

The structure of this disk is fascinating.  2 strong arms start from opposite ends of the core and extend out for 360 degrees.  The arm in the right side of the disk splits into two.  Several VV row segments are visible.  The bottom 1/3 of the disk is mysteriously faint. It looks as if a dark cloud lies between us and the galaxy.

3 other galaxies, mostly edge-on, are seen to the bottom of the image.
