Description

NGC 6888 or the Crescent Nebula. This was one of my first nebulas to capture when I was new to astrophotography, but I decided to revisit it with more expertise and better equipment.

This emission type nebula is a result of a massive star that lost mass at an incredible rate, equivalent to one of our suns every 10,000 years. The nebula's was first formed when the star turned into a red giant, shedding the first burst of ionized Hydrogen-alpha (red) and double ionized Oxygen (Oiii, blue). Strong subsequent solar winds helped shape the details throughout the nebula.

This nebula lies about 5000 light years from our solar system, in the Cygnus constellation, one of the most nebula-dense regions of our night sky. It can be viewed throughout late summer through winter.

Almost 22 hours total integration time, 328x120s on each filter, cut out a few bad frames.
