Description

SN2024bch was discovered on January 29, 2024, in the galaxy NGC3206 by Patrick Wiggins, one of the most prolific discoverers of supernovae of our times. At the time of discovery, the supernova had an estimated magnitude of 15.5, but it quickly reached approximately 14. It is a type IIn supernova, a particular category of supernovae characterized by the presence of hydrogen emission lines in their spectrum.NGC3206, where the supernova SN2024bhc was located, is a barred spiral galaxy visible in the constellation of Ursa Major and approximately 57.4 million light-years away from us. It has a magnitude of 12 and apparent dimensions of 2 arc minutes.Detailed information and updates can be found at Supernova 2024bch in NGC 3206 (rochesterastronomy.org).The image was acquired during the tests of the new Askar 151PHQ refractor recently mounted in my home garden.
