Description

NGC 6939 - I processed some old 2023 data.

I spent a rare clear evening in mid October of 2023 out at the farm, catching photons.

NGC 6939 -  I decided to include the open star cluster NGC 6939 in a session to catch the fireworks galaxy as well.  This cluster is fairly bright, large, rich and compressed. Its shape is irregular and about seventy stars can be resolved in it, many in chains that meander out into the surrounding Milky Way star field.

NGC 6939 is an old cluster, between 1 and 1.3 billion years - and is populated with a few variables and red giants.

Stacked in APP.  Processing was kept to a minimum for this one in Pixinsight and Photoshop - I will try to improve on this with some additional processing.

I did a bit of research and found some validation for the clump of red stars in this cluster.

Here is the red giant clumping data.  Some non-cluster grouped stars are included, I guess as an internal control for the stars associated with the proper motion characteristics of the main group.

Description: An early analysis on the spectral composition and nature of stars in the cluster of NGC 6939. Not many blue stars in this cluster, and a lot of red giants. This is an old cluster.
