Description

This is the second target I've shot with the Z61 combined with my modified Nikon D7200. Unfortunately, I haven't had enough time to capture a large number of subs on this target yet. The clouds have rolled in so I'm just processing what I have for now before I add to it in the future. What else do you do when the weather turns other that make tweaks and buy more equipment?

Even though I captured less than 5hrs of data on the target, I was pleasantly surprised by the resulting image. I didn't expect to capture nearly so much of the faint whispies as I did. I'm sure that when I integrate more data into the set, they'll begin to pop out even more.

While I've captured the three primary targets in this field several times in the past, I've never captured this much of the full field before. I've been eager to do so for a long time but couldn't until recently. I actually captured this target in tandem with my last submission, the California Nebula, thanks to the automation available in NINA's advanced sequencer and the Orbuculum plugin. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it.

Processing for this was the same as my last submission. I used a percentage of the original color mixed with an HOO rendition using Bill's narrowband normalization Pixelmath as well as a version of the same HOO rendition with some masked color curves applied. I was going for a fiery red and cool icy blue combination. I did use some unsharp mask on the pseudoluminance layer but I had to restrain it a bit more than usual to keep it from looking over sharpened. I had to use a more severe layer mask on the stars to reduce them as they were particularly overwhelming in the original image. My usual trick of copying the luminance from the star layer into its own layer mask and adjusting the density worked a charm. The rest of the processing was BAU.
