Description

NGC2403 is an intermediate spiral galaxy in Camelopardalis at a declination of 65° 36'. It is an outlying member of the M81 group. The northern arm connects the galaxy to NGC2404, a massive 2000ly wide H II region that even larger than the Tarantula nebula in the LMC.

This was my first (and last) image with this scope. I was very excited to acquire it, but on using it I was very disappointed. The design of the scope has a rigid connection between the primary and the focuser. Unfortunately, the connection to the rear cell was not very secure. I'm not certain if this is a problem with all or if I just got a bad one, but it had some major impact. I could not use the 10Micron mount to its fullest because the RMS on the model was around 36" (10" is ok, 20" is terrible, my EdgeHD 8 is around 4"). This mean that I had to guide the scope. Even worse, because the weight of the imaging train was causing flexture with the primary mirror, I could not hold collimation when moving around in the sky. I started the night collimating and getting as near to perfect as I could, but you can see how far off it is in this image. It changed when I slewed to this object because of the flexture. Sadly, I had to return this scope to the distributer. Unfortunately, I'm not going to risk getting another one...

I'm going to try a refractor!
