Description

SH2-261 The Lowers Nebula.  Seems like there should be another name...Dinosaur Skull Nebula, or Dragon Head Nebula.  I know it is named after the discoverer, but it seems like it needs a more cool name.  Brain with brain stem nebula!  This one sits above the Orion Nebula, in the constellation of Orion.  It is estimated to be about 3300 light years from us, and sits in the outer most reaches of our galaxy.. Must be lonely out there!  It is a fairly dim nebula so takes some time to get.  Clear skies
Mark
