I finally managed to finish processing the Whirlpool Galaxy. I had to throw all my data away from a week ago (4 hours worth) because I used too low of a gain (17) and processing the image was a nightmare. So I set up last night in my backyard in South Fort Collins and took about 1 hour each of HA, L, R, G, B using Gain 75 Offset 15 on my ASI 1600Pro monochrome camera from 9:30 PM through 4:30 AM . I processed the results today and am happy to release my very first fully processed galaxy. I didn’t bother sharpening or making the dust lanes of the galaxy more detailed in this run. Maybe I can do that for version 2 and stop while I’m ahead : ) I was very happy with the core of the galaxy and all the detail when you zoom in. I’m thinking about grabbing 5 more hours of data and adding on/sharpening etc for my version 2. Note i thought about doing a closer shot but there's 3 other galaxies in this shot I just couldn't bring myself to remove.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
