Positioned approximately 1,500 light-years away from Earth, this celestial beauty is characterized by its distinctive reddish hue, which is attributed to the ionized hydrogen gas that permeates the region. The nebula's striking appearance is further enhanced by the presence of the embedded variable star AE Aurigae, a massive and luminous blue star responsible for illuminating the surrounding interstellar dust and gas. The complex interplay of light and dark features within IC 405 creates a visually captivating scene.
